Become a Volunteer
As a volunteer with The Center, you are joining a group of about 280 people who support older adults and adults with disabilities still living in their own home in Wake County. Last year, our volunteers performed nearly 12,500 hours of services.
Our goal is to provide volunteer services to help our friends and neighbors live as independently as possible for as long as possible, while maintaining their dignity and quality of life.
Our volunteer opportunities are flexible, but all are for activities in the home of an older adult or adult with disabilities, or to drive them to an approved location. We ask for a volunteer commitment of at least a year. Read more about our services and programs to better understand what our volunteers do.
Volunteers should expect to give a minimum of 2.5 hours per month. Most volunteers give an average of 5 hours per month, with some volunteering 20+ hours per month. We do not have opportunities for people who need community service.
Volunteers are at the core of everything we do. We are committed to working with you to ensure that your volunteer experience is both positive and meaningful.

How to Join Our Volunteer Team
Step 1: Fill out a Volunteer Application
Our volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
- Fill out the “Sign Up to Volunteer” form below. We will email you a link to your own personal site where you can complete the volunteer application and enroll in orientation training.
- On your application, provide two personal, non-family references that support your eligibility.
- Volunteer Eligibility Policy
- Once you complete your volunteer application, our Volunteer Coordinator will schedule a time for a telephone interview. During the interview, the Volunteer Coordinator will get to know you better and will obtain your consent to run the background check. There will be time for you to ask any questions you have.
Step 2: Complete New Volunteer Orientation Training
We offer group orientation training virtually via Microsoft Teams. Sign up by emailing caregiving@ctrvolcare.org.

- Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 4:00 pm
- Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 6:00 pm
- Prior to the Orientation, you will need to download and read the Volunteer Handbook
- Registration is important. If fewer than two people register for an orientation session, the session may be cancelled. Those who have registered will be notified if an orientation is cancelled.
Step 3: Submit the Necessary Documents
- Copy of your valid Driver’s License.
- Copy of your current auto insurance card or declarations page of policy.
- Completed Criminal Background Check Authorization form or verbal consent to run a background check using your social security number. Read more about The Center’s Background Check Policy.
- $20 application processing fee which helps us cover the cost of the background check. Click here to pay fee. Please let our staff know if the fee presents an economic hardship for you.
