Vivien and John

John Sebastian is The Center for Volunteer Caregiving’s volunteer of the month. John has been a volunteer with The Center for eight years. During that time, he has logged more than 300 volunteer hours with The Center. He reports his hours every month.

John appreciates helping people do things they cannot do on their own and enjoys working with seniors. On most days, he delivers meals for Meals on Wheels and escorts seniors to their doctor appointments for The Center. If you’re considering volunteering, John said “You will get more out of it than the people you are serving. It’s not a problem; it is an opportunity!” Giving back is very important to John. He said, “I have the time, why not use it to benefit someone else.”
When not volunteering, John loves to play and watch sports. He gets his exercise every week playing pickleball at Hope Church gym in Apex. John also cooks and loves good food. His favorite dish is prime rib. His favorite color is aqua.

John currently helps care receiver Vivien, and she had lots of things to say about him: “John is good with people. He is the perfect gentleman and he is good company. We have great conversations. We don’t always agree but we haven’t hit each other! [They both laughed.] I have learned so much from him. He is very educated. He is kind, thoughtful, and enjoys what he is doing by helping others. It shows by how he treats people. If he makes a mistake he will apologize. We have similar personalities and we get along very well. He deserves to be recognized.”

John, thank you for all you do for the people who receive services from The Center!
