The Center for Volunteer Caregiving helps older adults and adults with disabilities in Wake County live independently for as long as possible. All of our services are provided at no charge by community volunteers. We do not provide assistance with personal care services like toileting, dressing, bathing, meal preparation, and hands-on help with movement.
Last year, our volunteers provided more than 10,000 hours of services.

Transportation
Volunteers provide escorted roundtrip rides for older adults and adults with disabilities who don’t drive, can’t use public transportation, and don't have a friend or family member who can help them get to medical appointments or do basic needs shopping for groceries and medicine.

Caregiver Support
We support family caregivers by providing information on resources in the community and by offering Powerful Tools for Caregivers, a self-care education program for caregivers. The Center also coordinates volunteers who provide respite visits for 2-3 hours so family caregivers can get a much needed break.

In-Home Connections
Volunteers offer friendly visits in the home or telephone check-ins, light help around the house, and grocery shopping for those who cannot leave their home and have no one else to shop for them. Our volunteers often make it possible for older adults and adults with a disabilities to continue living independently in the community.
